I am bringing back a Martin 60 and have a couple of questions about the water pump. I am not quite ready to start it up but getting close.
1) Does the Martin 60 have a telltale? Is there a way to know the pump is correctly functioning?
2) How do you know when the rotor is needing replacement? I remember (a long time ago) reading a little write up about the rotor type pumps and how to know when replacement is necessary.
May have been Frank that wrote the piece.
Thanks again for the help,
DrifterSeptember 3, 2021 at 3:30 pm #2460341. If memory serves, there should be a water spray out of the exhaust relief holes, about half way down. If it sprays at slow idle, it probably is ok. Rotor should be a close fit on the eccentric cam and be a close fit depth-wise in the housing. There should be a gap between one side of rotor and the housing. The gap moves around as the rotor wobbles through it’s rotation..
Maybe this will help—

I should have noticed these two holes sooner. It appears these are exhaust relief as well as telltale for water flow.
Thanks again,

I “say” it’s pumping water, but if it is, it
must be right at the water line in the barrel.Prepare to be boarded!
September 3, 2021 at 9:38 pm #246077Don’t know if these pump wobblers are available these days but I made one using a hockey puck, hole saw and band saw. Worked very well if ya can’t find one…

And all this time I’ve been using hockey pucks for body lifts!
