I’m only getting 3.5 volts out of resistor block both , 12 volts in, consequently 3.5v at coils even with wire off going to coil . This doesn’t seem to be like 9.5v for cars so wont burn points . No it wont start like a car that switches over to 12 while turning over . Not wired THAT WAY, with typical Merc grounded solenoid . So I’m baffled, I’ve poured over manuals and find a chart that states a parameter of 3.5 v . But not clear what its saying . ANY ONE FAMILLIAR WITH THIS SYSTEM. 6 CYL.

Exactly what motor do you have? I am very familure with the ignition systems but need the serial number to get it right. Mercury wired the ign two different ways & at 3.5 volts running. Seems like we are wired in series or the resistors are incorrect. Give me the serial number of your motor to figure out please.

            Frank,
I’ll call you. Also that motor is a 1961. Look at the serial number with an "A" suffix. That is the first year for 6 cylinder shift gearcase. Also the direct reversing motor had it’s last year for production. Exhaust relief is square for shift & round for the DR motors.
