Anything special I need to know about this long shaft 4hp before I dig in during the coming winter . Purchased it months ago on KIJIJI (Craiglist like site) for 60 or 80$ don’t recall exactly .

Good tump on compression and rewind cord not rewinding ) spring return is stuck…to be fixed 🙂 .

At the arrow the front part of the splash guard(?) is missing a few inches of plate (possible impact… hard to say yet I see no other impact damage)

note: borrowed a sample picture of the net for demo only….picture is not my own 4hp

It will be interesting to see if it has spark. The single cylinder Mercs seem to be easier on the early generation CDI ignition parts…..some say that part of the reason for that is that the single cylinder motors did not have a kill button. The KILL button on the twin cylinder motors of that vintage was hard on the CDI pack.
        .
What is the serial number? I’m curious what ignition system it is using.

Somehow this doesn’t sound correct, but here is what Oldmercs says when you look up a 4 HP with that serial number – a 1969 limited production racing engine???!:
            Dave

            “General Information:

This model was painted all “Phantom Black.”
The serial number was on a plate riveted to the swivel bracket above and between the clamp screws.
This was a limited production racing engine incorporating a special racing lower unit with forward-neutral-reverse shifting capability.”

I believe many serial #s for Canadian Mercs were different than US .

Perhaps John Kwast has a serial # list for Canada.

Looking up #2092765 at OldMercs, there is no 4 HP with that number. As has been suggested, maybe Canadian Mercs have different Serial Numbers…..or…..maybe it’s a misprint at OldMercs.com.

I looked #2692765 up at Crowley Marine and found a number of parts diagrams (link below) , but no claims about it being a racing engine.

Yeah – that makes sense for the 1250BP, but somehow that description also got on the Merc40, which has to be a mistake!
