      merc-o-tronic 98.

I added a volt meter to the on light so I know the condition of the battery when I turn it on.

Or you can replace the light with the volt meter.

Thanks. the voltmeter is LED so won’t use much battery.

Just a thought but if two insulated terminals were installed somewhere on the outside of the case and hooked up to the internal battery, then the 98 itself could be used to test its own battery.

Bacicly that is how it was done back in the day. just opened the top of the box and test. to much work. this way you know when you turn it on.

Yeah, it is a pain to take out the screws to lift the lid everytime you want to check the battery.

did you install a small — mini    push  switch in series with the display ?

NO ! it is hooked to the light. So when it is turned on the light and voltmeter are on.
