Man, you guys have all these issues with the Mercotronics…..The two Stevens machines I have been associated with for a combined total of almost 50 years, never crapped out once…..

        Bill,
Someone needs to take the the time to figure out which solid state vib swaps out. Another fair issue is how much did you pay for yours? My MOT was free, you see it didn’t function. I think after 50 years a points adjustment is in order.
I repaired the others junk like many things I drive. A simple tube swap out is no harder either,
JUST TO BE FAIR you see. 😆

Hopefully one of you guys will run a mercotronic repair school, I have no idea what you guys are talking about!

Jeff, the first one belonged to company I worked for; so there was no cost to me. The second one, which I own, cost me a hundred bucks on eBay. You guys must have been sleeping. 😆

🙂 So finally got around to working on the merctronic with some help from Jeff Register (thanks again). Here are a couple of pics of the vacuum-tube-eske aluminum points cylinder. I was able to determine that 1 set of points isn’t working.

I hooked up a simple resistance meter and when wiggling the mirrored points sets, 1 side wasn’t showing a connection. I held a screw driver across this fogged set of points and showed there was no resistance, so time to clean that set of points off, plug back in and retest operation of the unit.

I hope this helps others repair their units. Seems like a relatively simple fix (hopefully this works, waiting for the burnishing paper to be acquired).
