I have two fuel tanks from Mercury K Green tank motors.  The opening in the bottom of the tanks that have the filter assembly access is different size between the two tanks.  Both tanks appear to be factory original and not modified.  Did Mercury have different tanks with different size threaded holes for the filter assembly?  Or perhaps someone increased the hole size and threads on one of my tanks.  I have the filter assembly that fits in the smaller diameter hole, but is too small for the larger diameter threaded hole.  Any help is appreciated.

Just to be more clear…one tank has a threaded hole that measures approximately 1.10” inside diameter and the standard Mercury fuel fitting threads into this hole.  The other tank has a threaded hole that measures approximately 1.2” inside diameter and of course the filter that I have is too small diameter to fit the larger hole.  The question is, did Mercury supply two different size threaded filter assemblies or was my tank modified to a larger hole at some point.  I’d like to use the tank with the larger hole, but need to thread in a fitting that will work with the larger hole and then use an inline filter.

It has been explained to me that first year
motors (KE-7) had the smaller filter fitting.

I agree with everyone, but you are missing the filter element that goes on the filler cap plus thr fender type washer & nut that goes on the end to secure the filter  assembly. If you find a clean “sintered” metal original That  will  be rare, but if a diirty filter is found soak it in condenser/evaporator coil cleaner for air rconditioner fluid in a shot glass overnight. It cleans the filter without breaking the filter down. Can be bought at an air condittioner supply house. It is designed for cleaning the evaporator  & condenser aluminum coils or heat exchangers. It comes in quart sizes & is good for soft metals. I prefer this method to keeping it all original. Will clean the fuel line as well.

Again, I’m not being clear.  I am aware that some green tanks had a small outlet from the tank that did not allow for the use of the filter assembly that was screwed into the tank internally.  I included a picture of the threaded portion of the filter assembly as a reference.  I have the complete filter assembly that fits the smaller outlet tank port, but need to know if there were tanks produced by Mercury with a outlet port larger than the 1.1” port that I measured on one of my tanks.

My response wasn’t very clear and I did some checking.
The opening in the bottom of the gas tank, that holds the
filter assembly, is smaller in the first year motors (KE-7)
than the later motors. The gas cap is smaller in the KE-7
                  tanks as well..

Thank you.  So now my problem is where do I find a filter assembly for the larger opening?

Should be pretty easy. The one you have was only 1 year and
would be harder to find. PM Dave Bernard or Fastjohn. I bet they
                      can help you out .

How do I contact them?  I’m not familiar with how to do that on this site.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks
