
With all due respect to those who have been there and done that without aid of Mercury Pars Manuals it seems to me that
they might add value to this discussion.
So I will do my best to add manual pages related to magnetos used on KE7 thru KG4. Be patiend I am slow
but, the manuals can answer many questions,

Still trying to figure out scan from printer. Photos of Bendix Magneto Service Tools may also be useful for this discussion. Although original tools may be hard to come by a home shop machinist would not find the set of tools difficult to copy, However, the original tools were hardened for long service. I have made installing tools on lathe starting from scrap seciton of bar stock, A quick and dirty job… a first day of shop class level project,
Not having a machine shop, I followed the suggestion that a pitman arm puller can be used to remove the rotating magnet. This one worked well after some hand filing. To get the magnet back on, I found a flange nut, a washer with a hole large enough to fit over the crankshaft, and some assorted size bolts would push it back on.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
