The correct forward gear came in and I had a little time this afternoon so I installed it and buttoned things back up again. Then, I saw the pinion gear right where I placed it so I would remember to put it back in the LU. So, I took it all apart again. Wire wheeled everything back shiny then buttoned things up again. I flipped her over and installed the drive shaft and a new impeller and got the pump assembled and everything looked good. I decided to pressure check the LU and got this!
June 24, 2018 at 9:28 pm #78391Where are the air bubbles coming from? Out of the hose fitting?
June 24, 2018 at 9:37 pm #78392No, they are coming out where its bubbling.
June 24, 2018 at 9:42 pm #78393How much air pressure are you using? and can you give a photo or video of the exact location where the bubbles are coming from?

June 24, 2018 at 10:02 pm #78399Dang, You are going to have to remove paint to find out why….. There should be NOTHING there to leak…except maybe a crack, but you gots to find it…

classicomctools@gmail.comJune 24, 2018 at 10:06 pm #78400Yeah, that doesn’t look good…Looks like the casting is either cracked or porous…Did you see any damage from a previous failure on the inside of the gear housing when you had it apart? I guess I would sand down that area to help pinpoint the actual leak, but you will probably have to pull it all apart again…
I hope I am wrong also…June 24, 2018 at 10:12 pm #78401Probably a crack. I would grind it out slightly, then fill with brazing rod or TIG Weld with Argon, then self etch then paint.
