I picked up a couple multimeters at a yard sale this past weekend. I have admitted to any of you that have tried to help me through electrical issues that I have a bit of hard time with electricity/electronics. But, anyway, these meters have a capacitance measurement setting and I was wondering if it would be useful to me while working on these old motors? What looks to be the better of the two meters is a Tenma 72-6202.

Are either meters "R.M.S." meters? D.C. is good but must be rms rated for accurate A.C. Hint= Root Mean Square @ 60cycles per second. Outboards may vary,
No kidding! Test each meter on a live connection AC or DC to be sure it is correct & have a second one if your not sure.

I have to say that I don’t have one with a capacitance function, but just for your information, the capacitance of our outboard condensers is in the neighborhood of 0.1 to 0.4 mfd (UF). So whatever you are considering needs to be capable of that range.

The Tenma multimeter says "True RMS".

The -) l- setting is for testing capacitors. Nice to have. 🙂

Will test for up to 10 Amps too. Looks like a nice instrument

EDIT: Just noticed, it has peak reading capability. Even nicer. You need that for troubleshooting the new CD ignition systems.

Maybe I did good then. The hard part is learning how to use it.

Maybe you can find user instructions online.

The multimeter was still in the box with the manual. The problem is the AMOUNT of instruction I will need. LOL
