Have a 35000 series Model 98 that I am going through. It has some obvious problems. I also have a 21000 series Model 98 that I have completed rehab on and it seems to be operating normally.

Of significance is that the wiring is different between the two and there is an additional circuit board on the latter model. One primary issue is that the battery ground wire is missing and there is no indication of where the wire is connected. On the earlier model it was on the rotary switch.

i am going to assume the tech support is no longer available.

Im by no means an expert, but on the contrary to your last statement, tech support is still available! They even take them in still and refurb them.

          Steve,
I must go for the weekend but when I get back I will send you photos of where my meter connects to ground. There are drawings out there on this site a few weeks back, maybe a good search will give results still! Send me an email reminding me of what we are doing & photos will return.

Thanks Jeff, I’ll look around here and see if I can dig something up. If I come up empty or find something I’ll post either way.

I thought I had made contact with Mercotronic in the past with the result being that these units are no longer supported. Well, I can confirm this, given the response I received from the company this morning. I was informed that the tech that provided support has "retired" because of health reasons and is no longer available. Should I interpret this as possibly passing away.

In a conversation I had with Stevens earlier in the year they have a similar situation. They have a retired tech that is suppoting some of their non current equipment.

interesting thread since I posted a ? about my unit just about a week or so ago. Must-have testing tools for maintaining yesteryear motors. I’m all ears.
