Just aquired a Neptune 4A38 and was wondering if anyone out there has any pics of a complete motor including some closeup pics of the carb and throttle cable assy. Mine appears to be all there but has some broken pieces and a stuck throttle cable. Want to have an idea of any possible missing parts. Can’t believe how light this 4hp is!

June 10, 2022 at 6:08 pm #261366Dan, I have a 37 4 hp Neptune as well, but didn’t have any good photos of it.
Garage is locked up for the night, but if I remember tomorrow, I’ll take
a look and see if the cable is on the other side of the carb.
Been a few years since I ran either. One runs good, the other I believe
has / had ignition issues with the coil.Prepare to be boarded!

Is there enough shown in these to answer the questions you have?
I believe the number stamped on the side should be MS45C.

June 10, 2022 at 11:20 pm #261369Yea Tubs…that’s the carb I have, the moon shaped piece that has the speed/slow and stop is broken and is swiveling on the flat head mounting screw. I’ll have to figure out how to get it apart but I’m gonna wait till I check spark and compression before I get into the carb. Kind of a cute little engine. The guy I got it from has a few more engines I’m interested in. He’s got a KD4, A-35, A-25 (minus the gearcase assy), a few Martins, A Waterman (that’s spoken for) and a lot of parts motors. He’s in his 80’s and he (his wife) wants to thin out the herd. I also got an Elgin 1 1/4 hp and 3 Thors that I’ll try to make one good engine out of. Most of the engines are in real rough shape. Got to figure out what to give him for all the engines…he’s a good friend and I don’t want to underpay him but I don’t want to overpay either.

The lever is pined to the shaft so removing the
butterfly to remove the shaft is the best way to
get that part off (IMO). Watch out for the spring
and slug if they aren’t gone already.
You’ll never over pay when dealing with a true
friend. I’m sending you a PM.
