Thank you everyone for the replies.
I will contact Doug Penn to see if he has any of the parts I need. I’ve been browsing the gallery, and have an idea of how this engine should look when finished. My biggest concern right now is how much time I’m going to spend looking at parts, other motors, and bringing home more! I also have an idea of a boat I would like to build to mount this on. I also have a collection of rods and reels from the 30’s, so this should be fun.
I’m definitely using oil in my gas, thank you for reminding me. I took the head of yesterday, and was pretty impressed with the cylinder and rings. Everything looks very good. I half expected to find a broken ring or two, but I did not. I only wish I had a media blaster to clean off old paint, but I can do it by hand until I move next year. I should be done with the engine by then, if not, I need to adjust my priorities!

Your J-80 looks nice. I’m envious of your tank. Mine is so warped on the bottom that it is actually sitting lower than the flywheel. Doug says he should have one to replace it.

VW, would enjoy seeing photos of the tank welding
process, and equipment used. Is the tank steel or
aluminum……… that’s one part I’m missing along with
a carburetor.Prepare to be boarded!
