I want to run my old motors when they are fixed. I am going to run a 16 to 1 mix but i know a lot of the oil will end up in the lake. Cost is not a problem as not much will be used.

Is there an oil that is environmentally friendly?

    Thanks,
    Tom

use  $$$ bio oil like xd100 or similar    or modify the purge valve   which dumps crankcase juices in the water … mod  will send juices in a holding tank

do searches to modify the purge valve

Crosbyman, thanks for posting, but this information deserves to be disseminated by way of an article in the “Antique Outboarder” … unless it has been, and I missed it. In which please accept my apologies.

There are a few oils that “claim” to be biodegradable.
            XD100 isn’t one of them.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Interesting  that xd100 isn’t biodegradable….it was my impression that it was and I stand corrected.  thanks for sharing that important document which I will relay to those concerned.

                In fact xd-100  seems rather nasty….stuff  🙁

strange that  EV service info  specifies bio  oil for  some of their their T&T  units yet  very little info  (that I have seen anyway) has been circulated on the nature of  XD-100 ….

Almost seems  like oil drips from  some of their  T&T units (using bio oil) was /is  more critical than warnings about xd-100 drips  especially  with all those  ETEC oil tanks cracking open the way the did years ago… mine did after a rough trip on a high wind 3 foot chop lake back around 2011  see history search…fyi  !!

2005 75 ETEC cracked oil tank update – Barnacle Bill’s Marine Supply (etecownersgroup.com)

to my  knowledge….no  formal recall was ever issued to pull the faulty tanks and replace them….although mine was  under my 7 year  warranty.

ok mback to  oily  oldies….. …

“Biodegradable” is a matter of degree.  (Probably almost any organic material will degrade eventually. )  I have not heard  of any official criteria for calling a product “biodegradable”  Anybody know of one?

well it seems… that a one point as per one user on the ETEC board,   the Evinrude BRP folks  did market  a ” biodegrable”  product  but has mentionned   a DI  ETEC type engine

burns all the  oil if any gets mixed in the fuel .  The bio thing was more of  a marketing  feel good thing !

Early  ETECs like my 2005  had one  xd-1oo oil  feeder hose  joined to the fuel  line probably  to benefit from its Carbon Guard  properties  but this practice  has been discontinued.

in any event xd-100  is synthetic  but not bio as per the technical document above.

As a product of the baby boomer  generation I am a bit biodegradable myself. 🙂

To be a biodegradable oil it must degrade
more than 60% within 28 days.
