Hey guys i have two boats one I’ve had about a year from the 60s with johnson controls found new cables no problem done deal .. now i have just picked up a 1957 mohawk 15 foot runabout with a 1956 johnson 30hp my question is are they different cables on the control end ? the controls definitively have a different style to the handles and housing . I did a quick internet search and the control housing has a rack style set up thanks for any information
October 9, 2022 at 10:35 am #267328Cables up through 1978 will fit your old style control. But the motor ends have the adjustable plastic nuts, which require different cable locks on the motor. 1979-up are distinctly different in that they do not have removeable ends.

October 9, 2022 at 10:47 am #267329I believe the early cables are 400 series. From ’79 are 479 series.

Yes, the 400 cables fit all the pre-’79 controis. But if replacing the early “fat” cables, the locks #11 & #21 have to be changed to take the plastic adjusting nuts.

October 9, 2022 at 1:34 pm #267341An (1958) example of the old “fat” cables without plastic adjusting nuts. Locks #11 & #21 are different size.
