305679 doesn’t have the ‘pointy thing”. That’s the “black bracket” I showed in my photo.

I’m tending to agree: take the bracket I have & fabricate some sort of cowl locating pin. Machine something, or maybe just put in a bolt & grind down the end.

I’d probably spend two hours setting it up and locating it in the mill then ten minutes drilling it for a pin.

Well if you happen to find a “spare”, feel free to let me know! 🙂

No problem. I’m still looking for two more (one Johnson, one Evinrude) so it may be while. You might not want to wait for me to find you one 🙂

I have it from a reliable source:  The OMC Bracket PN 305679 started life with “the pointy thing” on there for the Johnson motors.  BUT….at the  factory….they took the bracket and GROUnD OFF THE POINTY THING for the brackets sold for the Gale and Evinrude motors.

So……..You will see 305679 brackets for sale with and without pointy things….all the same part number.

Many e-bay sellers don’t know the difference….all they know is that they have a bracket for sale with the #305679 on it.  So….you as a buyer have to ask or look at their pictures to see for yourself if it is the original Johnson version….or an Evinrude or Gale version.
