I’m replacing the impeller and seals on a 1968 Johnson Colt 1.5 hp. The water tube grommet in the pump cover doesn’t feel too bad, and since I’m cheap I will spend 6-$7 on a new one only if I have to. Anyone ever tried to tighten up that connection between the grommet and water tube?
Tighten up the connection?? Does the water tube appear to be too loose in the impeller housing grommet? I mean it is normal for the tube to be able to go through that grommet with little resistance. Are you sure you have the right grommet? If in doubt, replace it…
I’m with Don. You might use an inert lube like petrolium jelly to help when replacing. One time we ran out of wire pulling lube & used hand cleaner. We had to pull in new wire because the hand cleaner destroyed the insulation. Make sure it’s inert substance please.
