Just acquired a 1940’s?? Goodyear Seabee outboard. Data plate has been removed. Appears that someone painted the outboard with a brush. Was seized up. Freed up the piston. Has no spark. I’ve been slowly taking it down and got to the points. Somewhat corroded but got them cleaned up pretty good. I haven’t been able to find any information or specifications on this unit. Single cylinder, water cooler, and I’m thinking it might be a 3hp unit. Does anyone know what the point gap might be..??? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I didn’t see anyone listed for GoodYear Outboards in the AOMCI directory.

      Thanks,

      Frank

Point gap would be 0.020″ on any of them.

As for I.D. are the magnets in the flywheel or are they a round rotor in the center?  Does it have 360 degree steering?

Magnets are in the round rotor in the center and not in the flywheel.  It does not have 360 degree steering. Has a caring handle attached to the stern bracket. I attached a picture.

Not sure where that picture came from. It’s not mine. I can’t get my picture sent to you. It’s a .jpg and only 1.4 mb

Try renaming your photo and see if it appears here.

                By the way, nice gaskets!

Motor is a 1945-46 Model 0253555 (Gale model 135A)  OR an early 1947 model 1G1 (Gale model 1G1).  Motor was redesigned in 1947 with 360 degree steering.

Frank, the illustration you sent is great. Looking at the trim my model appears to be the 1G1 version.

Frank, I have to figure out how to rename my files. I tried sending it several times
and get the same error. Another question. How do I remove the rotor assembly? Looks like
it utilizes the same key as the flywheel. Does it just pull straight up?

Yes, it just pulls straight up.  Perhaps a gentle pry from a couple of screwdrivers.  They did make a special tool to grab hold of it, but I never had one, nor needed one.
