Last hose I bought was from a Honda boat motor dealer. I liked everything about it. Flex easy to work with & was good to go for any gas…..so they said anyway. Been a year & everything is Good!!

100% of the time, every person likes to start weighing in on what they think a repair should be and how it should go. That became old, real fast…and is a distraction, to say the least.
Hear you there! In another life I repaired motorcycles.
I had a sign in the shop that read;
Labor $40/hr.
If you watch $60/hr.
If you help $80/hr.
LarryJanuary 25, 2016 at 8:58 pm #30798I hear ya too on the people watching, or telling you what is wrong with it. If they know so animatedly, why aren’t they doing it themselves! lol
I had a guy the other day bring a motor over that he wanted the carb cleaned on. Sure, I told him to come back the next day and it would be done. He wanted it done then! I said I like to soak them overnight, clean, rebuild, etc… He said his neighbour told him all it needed was to have some carb cleaner sprayed in the throat quick. He got aggressive about it.
I told him what him and his neighbour could go do to each other 😉

One local mechanic had a big sign over the bay doors that said "Mechanic rates: $30.00/hour…..If you want to watch: $100.00/hour"
January 26, 2016 at 1:43 am #30821Back to the polyurethane hose question. Many years ago someone came out with a hose called Silver? 2000. It had a clear inner liner. (I believe that liner is polyurethane). It was used by all of the boat companies (52 in our area then) as the new wonder hose. Of course the inner liner (clear) separated and clogged up the works. This past summer we are still running into that same hose. It is called something else now, but not a bit better. The outside is blue now. When you put it on a barb the inside folds up. After that happens the liner is done! It separates from the outer casing and the hose is junk. This hose meets all of the latest ABYC, Coast Guard, and ethanol requirements.
I stay with a good braided (Gates if I can get it) fuel hose. Try to keep as much as possible out of the sun light.Dan in TN
January 26, 2016 at 2:31 am #30825Well I’m looking at my options closely.
And figured I’d give everyone a laugh. Many moons ago, I spent some time learning about graphic design. Never chose it as a career, but still enjoy dabbling on the side. I put this together for my shop, and pulled the image of the guy from the 10th edition Johnson service manual. I guess I just need to enforce it now!
January 26, 2016 at 4:23 am #30829I like the "If you worked on it first" rate 🙂 I run into that now and then in my work and it sure can add time to the diagnosis as the evidence has been tampered with.

January 26, 2016 at 3:31 pm #30844Yeah well I’m guessing you aren’t one of the other 99% of people who tell them how to do their jobs. And those types of errors are just plain head shakers.
I will say, that having someone helicopter-ing over me is a huge distraction and makes it very difficult to focus.
January 26, 2016 at 3:41 pm #30847well years ago my Ontario car inspection resulted in one back wheels falling off as I drove home….lugs not screwed down properly…:-(
