I refer to the pre ww2 device that used a spring loaded disc to allowl air flow into crankcase
but not out. Fuel flow was regulated by a needle valve attached to a numbered knob.
Apparently several varieties (I have seen 3 ). As far as I can tell no markings on them
to indicate who made them or model identification.
Are they the same fuel mixer that Mr. Kiekhaefer found on reject Thor Sea Kings? If so,
why were they still on 1940 Mercury and 1940 and 1941 Kiekhaefer Sea Kings?
Curious about stuff that probably does not matter a whole lot but it bugs me.

March 28, 2016 at 8:32 pm #34025Here’s the mixing valve on the ’37 Thor built Sea king I am currently working on. A very simple device with one moving part. The original mixture needle was missing but the new one I make for it will have a small knurled dial on it.
The next picture shows another members Thor motor. Apparently Thor Hansen used a bent piece of rod for the needle. 😯
I’m not sure why Elmer kept using them if he improved them enough to work and used carburetors on his own motors. Maybe they had a crate full of them and had to use them up.

Reminds me of a hit & miss carb & poppet set up. Knew a old biker who had 6 motors. We would go out in the desert & visit "Lead Pipe" & bring him canned foods. I have no idea what happened to him, one day he was gone from his squatting spot. He would start his collection for us. That was back in the 70’s. I did electrical & transmission repairs for Harley’s on the side for extra money back in my 20’s. Way before 5 speed trans were introduced.
I enjoyed the repairs more than riding. Enjoyed a puzzle. -
