Very easy to mount the solenoid in the lower cowl/pan and install a push-button starter. Insulated Push-button (momentary on) are available at tractor supply stores. You can also add a second push button for a kill switch.
July 12, 2017 at 10:04 pm #61495I didn’t mind having to choke it manually and planned on mounting the non-standard solenoid elsewhere. I’d have to find the bracket, starter motor AND flywheel because mine doesn’t have the teeth. I’ll keep looking but won’t lose any sleep if I don’t find what I need in the immediate future.
I WILL, however, begin a new thread on what it’d take to connect a kill switch to this motor.
Thanks again, really.July 12, 2017 at 10:46 pm #61499Kill switch is easy…one wire to each set of points, they connect at a switch anywhere you put the switch, when you push the switch in the points ground each other out stopping spark..whallah

classicomctools@gmail.comJuly 13, 2017 at 2:23 am #61507In the interest of total clarity, Does one side of the kill switch go to ground and the other side to each set of points or does each side of the switch go to a different set of points, thus connecting the points to one another when activated?
July 13, 2017 at 2:41 am #61511either way works. for the best way use the ground.
July 13, 2017 at 5:00 pm #61539Hooking both points to one wire shorts them together which kills the ignition. The factory connects the points each to opposite sides of the switch. Don’t over think this adaptation, a ground connection is not necessary. . . 😀

July 13, 2017 at 6:43 pm #61543Garry,
But it is a floating ground! I’ve had current reverses before bonding the mag to the block & it got so hot the points were gold in color on one side. For my money I would bond or ground the two before setting up any switching.July 13, 2017 at 8:39 pm #61550Ok guys, I didn’t mean to create a heated debate here, no pun intended, but would someone like to describe the wisest way to connect a kill switch?
Keeping in mind the philosophy that Simple is Good. 😉July 13, 2017 at 9:57 pm #61561I would ground it. point to point works IF at idle if at higher speeds it ca still run but slower. that is what I found out.
July 14, 2017 at 12:42 am #61576Dave,
If I go with your idea, I’m having trouble picturing how I’d connect a switch so both sets of points get grounded when activated and not have the leads to the points in contact with one another when not activated. I hope this makes sense. -
