Made the mistake of going to the Member’s Only page to check out Tools of The Trade and spent hours reading and absorbing some fantastic ideas. Today I build the motor stand.
However, I am trying to find a tool to pressurize lower units before and after I do seals and O rings. Is anything for sale?
July 16, 2023 at 10:55 am #278099Steven’s instruments makes some very nice gearcase pressure gages, but they aint cheap. Nonetheless, this is a solid investment for anyone who is into this hobby.
You can also just buy parts from Stevens as well. So, you could buy the threaded fitting from stevens, then use a different gage. Just keep in mind that a bad gage set up introduces errors into your testing procedure. You don’t want to confuse an actual gearcase leakage issue with a gage/tool that has internal/hose leaks of its own.
July 16, 2023 at 2:56 pm #278118this is what I ordered from Amazon and I used a Canadain tire Crank case oiler pump fitting on the pressure pump hose
see video… Pressure testing an outboard gearbox
checks pressure and… vacum 🙂

July 17, 2023 at 4:53 pm #278173My buddy showed up one day and gave me a box and said happy bday. This was inside the box along with a bicycle pump. Works great!

July 18, 2023 at 6:52 am #278201Again, home made rigs can introduce confusion into the testing process for sure. Cheesy/leaky gages, poor connections, are just going to indicate leaks that are the fault of the gage set up.
July 18, 2023 at 9:55 am #278204some soapy water spray on shafts and GC should at least confirm the leaks but…. not the vacum leaks .

July 18, 2023 at 7:55 pm #278228While it is not capable of testing vacuum….I found that I could easily adapt the pump and gauge that comes with this Harbor Freight item…..
Sometimes they are on sale for about half=price.
