Mounting a fuel pump to convert a pre-60s oldy always requiers either brackets, plates, tye wraps, post 60s cyl cover plate with the pump mount cast into the cover plate etc…
as anyone ever tried “filling” a pre 60s cyl cover plate with epoxy (high heat or a similar product ) to flatten the exposed surface of the cover then just drill and mount the pump over the filled cover then using 2 bolts and a centered hole to get the vacum pulse from the crankcase ?.
with the base gasket under the pump …over the newly created flat & heat resistant surface, this should allow for a clean and secure mounting of the pump if one cannot locate a post 60 cover plate for pumps.

November 4, 2020 at 5:53 pm #220084Certainly, I’ve done it. JB Weld,, Marine Tex, whatever. You can drill & tap it for threads too. I don’t see heat being a real problem. The intake side stays relaivly cool. At least it better.

November 4, 2020 at 9:02 pm #220109Great news
thanks for feedback FR & Ev25 I have a nice 10hp 1959 Golden Jubile as a winter project to convert to pump and will try the JB weld method which will likely flow in better than the putty stuff
oops wrong pictures… could not be deleted ?? Deletion DONE!

November 4, 2020 at 10:23 pm #220115They have EBay seller that makes intact port covers with fuel pump mounting for the OMC 1950s 7.5hp, 10hp,15hp, and 18hp Johnson and Evinrude motors. They are kind of similar to the ones FR use to make.
I have not used this seller products but he has good satisfaction scores.

November 4, 2020 at 10:42 pm #220123If you are converting a ten horse, why not look around for a ’61 – ’63 bypass cover with the factory fuel pump mounts on it?
November 5, 2020 at 12:28 am #220147yes I could but filling the void on a regular cover seemed easy enough to do at minimal cost. parts & postage fees from the US + conversion to CDN $$ > putty $$
I have done the plate thing using 1/16 aluminum plate using the cover as a template

November 5, 2020 at 6:53 pm #220203Before it went into eternal storage at a friends shop, I mounted a small square pump onto the crankcase of a ’57 7.5 horse Fleetwin while it was apart. It turned out neat and looks original. I don’t have any photos of it but I’ll pull the motor out some day I’m over there and take some pics. Promise!
