I’m torn on this one. If I had the money to buy, one part of me says put it on the back and enjoy, and the other side says it should go into some sort of outboard museum for everyone to see what it looked like when the proud owner opened the box in the fifties.

December 24, 2015 at 5:21 pm #29154I was given a 1960 Gale 15 maybe 15 to 20 years ago that I am not sure had ever been used. It looked new. All the rubber parts were shot but after new coils, wires, impeller, hoses and that motor proved to be my favorite and I have enjoyed it all these years.
December 24, 2015 at 5:24 pm #29155It’s not worth 1000.00 to me. Never get my money back from it. I see buff marks on it. Bet it has scratch marks inside the clamp area. He didn’t know it was a 58 either.Anything mechanical requires service.Lets get real here!
December 24, 2015 at 7:20 pm #29163Me personally, If I bought it, I would not run it. How many people can say they have a 1958 NOS motor? Its only like that once, if it is NOS.
There are PLENTY of motors you can run.
Just my 2 cents.

Besides, it’s just a 10. Now, an 18, that might be different. Lol.

December 25, 2015 at 3:40 am #29194Well first off, they have all been run once. Every OMC engine got run in a test tank before being shipped. I have a 1958 7.5hp Johnson that is as shipped from the factory. Only run in the test tank. Now I have kept it as a trophy, but part of that is because it is a 7.5hp. Those models weren’t known for their longevity (upper rod). Like others have said they are only NOS once. I have the tank (no gas ever) and a brand new stand (purchased from OMC when I got the motor). That was some 30 yrs ago. It’s sits in my office and does not see the light of day. I turn it over from time to time and keep it lubed. All of the rubber parts are soft and pliable. It has Auto Lite AX-3 spark plugs. I only missed getting the crate by a few days.
I have seen this 10hp for bids also. I would love to have it, but the price is a little high and I’m afraid it might not look that nice up close? Transportation is another problem for me. I would only feel this way about a motor that was near perfect/NOS, otherwise I would run it on special occasions.Dan in TN
