Points is set at .020 inch with a feeler gauge at the high point of rotor. You set the points with a feeler gauge. One set of points at time turn crank and set the second set. They are 180 degrees apart.
Here is material from a manual that makes reference to an 1950 Sportwin. It has an ignition very similar to yours. It has a Rotor Magnet Magneto. Use it as reference for understanding.
I have not worked on a Rotor Magnet Magneto. Hopefully someone with experience with rotor magnet magneto setup can assist.

LOL, sorry Jim I didn’t know that you were on the job. Ya beat me to it…lolRay, if you manipulated the coil’s position, please verify the coil laminate heel clearance to the magnet rotor with a feeler gauge. Look at the above information that details proper clearance of the coil’s laminate heels and the magnet rotor.
September 22, 2016 at 11:44 am #44513Thank you Mumbles and Cajuncook1 for all that valuable information.
If it weren’t for this board my little Seabee would be sitting in my garage with me wondering what to do with it. With this in mind I went ahead and joined this morning as a member. Worth every penny.
I’m going to put the flywheel back now that my magneto seem to be working and move on to the foot; more issues there. Should I continue this thread or start a new one regarding the foot issues?
Many Thanks,

May 4, 2020 at 6:52 pm #202003Hello all,
I realize this post is a bit old, but I gotta try. Bought a 5HP Goodyear Seabee motor a little over a year ago. Needs nee magneto, which I bought. I’ve been reading through the threads here as a guest and decided to join. Anywho…this heres a 51 to 53. I bought the parts manual from ebay, but couldn’t find an owners or repair manual. Thing is, I cannot get the flywheel off. Stripped two holes using a puller….tapped with a mallet, sprayed PB Blaster, poked around the center ring with a poker and a punch…no luck. Is there a keeper on somewhere in missing? I watched Mr Cajuns videos…but the 1st one already had the lid off. Any chance one of you fellers knows which way to go on this? Tempted to use the jaws of life, but I dont wish to bend her up.
Thanks!May 4, 2020 at 9:27 pm #202016Try a Flywheel knocker. Do a search on here for a picture.
Oh and by the way, Welcome!
