I have a near new Prufrex (OMC universal type) coil. Looks like the coil cover was rubbed by a flywheel magnet. It is not through the cover except in one small corner spot. I see no sign of damage to the coil internals. The coil works ok. Would just putting some liquid electric tape on that spot be a satisfactory repair?
Thank you.December 18, 2017 at 9:24 pm #68764seal it with a couple of coats "thick" crazy glue is what I would do.

December 18, 2017 at 10:52 pm #68768why – old issue, a loose coil.
December 18, 2017 at 11:08 pm #68771What insulation value does tape have? Hobby shop fiberglass cloth & 41,000 volt dielectric "Corona Dope" was designed to stop H.V. leaks. Have built too many service sections…All had glass dielectrics for iso pads up 2 41,000 vac. The glass cloth for Av apps is very thin & adds strength, insulating properties & the corona dope isolates to 41,000 vac@60 hertz. Use this stuff please. MG Chemicals.com

Loose coil, but, maybe …… missing washer…..bent mag plate…. corrosion under the flywheel ….bad crack seal or gasket…and so onSkeg

when asked by Dave to find out why it was rubbing.

December 21, 2017 at 5:17 pm #68839In a pinch, non-metallic epoxy works as a band aid for sealing cracked coils. You don’t want to use products such as JB Weld for this as they contain iron powder and are conductive and might make the situation worse.
December 21, 2017 at 7:23 pm #68842Dollar store seringes at $1.50 are great and auto dispense equal volumes of mixes.
others with auto-mix swirl tips (smaller quantity of epoxy) are also very convinientJoining AOMCI has priviledges 🙂
December 22, 2017 at 6:27 pm #68875Rubber based 3M 847, a few coats perhaps, if you have it on hand, if the hole ain’t too big. I have used it on a couple of applications like this and it worked well for me.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
