I’m not so sure one could get the tank hot enough to solder
if it’s full of water… can you?

No. Water would be turning to steam
before the solder ever melts. Wash out
the inside of the tank several times with
the water base dirt and grease remover.
Re-melt solder with a heat gun.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

good point .I did use the water method many years ago when brazing on a still tank.

Just the right mix is all it takes. Add a little dishsoap to the water, then very carefully wipe the torch past the cap opening full of water, drain & repeat. Then fix the tank, but get it very clean & a little flux too boot. A dose of acetone afterwards to remove any moisture.
Me, I would be the nut to desolder it to clean the inside too, just how I’m wired,

Thanks again all of you for your helpful suggestions.
Your suggestion Jeff, to desolder the tank did pass through my mind, but I think I will just try repairing the two leaks at this stage.
