The hole is for access to this set screw that goes into the dimple in the crankshaft. I try to save pictures of the motors I repair so if I ever work on another it will show me what I did last time AND to be able to help others when and if I can. I don’t have all the answers but ask as many questions you may have so I didn’t waist all that time. Maybe this video will be of some help. https://youtu.be/K0veRUVxBjU

Yup, another guy pulling our leg? One looks bad and one looks spectacular. I think we have seen another miracle right here on Outboard motor Clubs forum! I am in awe!

Absolutely outstanding piece of work!! This restoration project deserves an article in the Antique Outboarder magazine describing the details of this unbelievable transformation.
