I bought an exhaust tube that goes into the exhaust of a J= (after market). It came with the 2 screws, but they are too small for the holes in the exhaust. I don’t want to drill the holes larger in the tube to use the right size of screws. What can I use to put into the exhaust holes that will accept the screws that came with the tube?
      Thanks, Robert

Say what? Are you asking for some sort of a thread reducer bushing? Let’s start over with some better information on what exactly it is you are working on.

You are likely correct , Tubs. Probably a #12 screw hole and they gave him the common #10 . I keep handy my chart of old screw sizes for just this kinda’ question.
Some of the old American Standard screw sizes that one is likely to encounter on old machinery…Note that several are dangerously (deceptively) close to modern common sizes.

              #12 = .216 inch dia.
              #14 = .242
              #16 = .268
              #18 = .295
              #20 = .321
              #22 = .347

Tubs, I call those an American Standard #16 -20. Understand that the actual measured diameter on a commercial screw is typically a few thousands smaller than the nominal size.

PS, and the #16 screws came in pitches 16, 18, and 20 TPI

Mc Master Carr has lock washers for cap screws… from size #2 thru 1 -1.2″ . Also maybe check metric lock washers, they typically have smaller outside diameters than the US ones.
