I wouldn’t be welding there, when an insert will do the job. Either a heli-coil or if you have a “lathe friend” make an aluminum threaded bushing.

I tried but the screw is the same size as the ones I got with the tube.
get an aluminum screw loctite it in place . then cut it off flush. now drill and tap for your colt.
