I’ve never been sure I have total buy-in to how well the recirc system works. The FD-12 I’m working on right now had a bad upper crank seal but I also think some of the oily mess on the mag plate may have come from oil mix leaking past the bearing. Sure wish they had used a belt and suspenders design with an O-ring in conjunction with the recirc system.
