Is there a source for new or NOS parts for the old 60’s OMC control cables? Also the wear parts inside the controls? Mine are old, in not the greatest shape and stiff as wedding day… nevermind. Anyway, I’d like to replace them but all I come up with is used takeoff that’s likely to be as bad as mine.
September 4, 2018 at 8:23 pm #82284The cables are still available new from Teleflex and Seastar, probably others. Marine engine has had all the parts I have needed for the 50’s/60’s control boxes.

They can be hard to find at some online companies without a model number. Teleflex does not have the cable ends:

Like RCO said, Marineengine.com is my go-to place for OEM parts. Inside the control box assembly, a bit of lube sometimes does wonders.
DaveSeptember 4, 2018 at 11:40 pm #82297I think you have to expect to take them apart and clean/lube everything. It’s nor hard as long as you have a parts breakdown and keep track of all the pieces. Likewise the old style cables with removable ends can have the core wire pulled out. I don’t know what the proper procedure is but I hang mine from a 2nd story window and flush ATF through them. Same with steering cables. Of course if there are bad kinks or rusted places don’t waste time with them.
September 5, 2018 at 1:56 am #82305Thanks guys. The innards of mine are clean and lubed but are worn. Those are some great resources and that parts breakdown just made my day!
Thank you.
I’m not sure if my cables have removable ends, the ends are fine but I’ll check them
TomorrowSeptember 5, 2018 at 2:26 am #82307If the ends are not removable, it is much newer than 1960’s. Fast forward about 20 years or so—
