Does anyone know if the diameter of the spark plug wire was 7mm or 9mm on a Johnson A25? What color were the original wires, and was the insulation covering braided ? Anyone know how long the wires are supposed to be, and if one wire is longer than the other? Any recommendation on what type of spark plug wire terminal to use for attaching to the spark plug? Thanks Jonathan Smith
Well Jonathan not long ago I had a A-25 with the original wires. I have pictures but I’m away from home and the lap top has expired. From memory which isn’t very reliable and why I have pictures they were black woven 8 mm. There is someone who often post here who’s name escapes me that is very knowledgable on the early Johnson so if you don’t get a response move this thread back up so he might see it. Tubs
A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
Also another option is use neon “G.T.O.” hi flex wire. comes in many colors & rated at 15,000 volts at your local neon shop. I have used it many times & no shipping costs. It is very fine hi stranded copper with the hi voltage insulation. Less money too. GTO means gas tube only in national electric code book. Oh 7mm too.
All my A25 35 45 etc.originals have approx 9mm black lacquered cloth covered. That’s the size they need to be so that the ferrules can “clamp” them in place.Earlier A models were approx 7mm. and used metal clamps.Be careful removing the Bakelite ferrules.
