While not super old, this ’94 15 horse Merc was recently posted on the FB site.  It was purchased from the widow of the fellow who bought it brand new and passed away suddenly shortly after without ever starting it.

      They are out there.

And for the doubters, it also passed the bore scope inspection.

It’s always such a great feeling to acquire a brand-new outboard and take it for it’s first run.  At least I guess that people still get that great feeling!  The last motor I did that with was when I saved and bought a 1962 Johnson 3 HP new.  I was 13 at the time but i remember it well.

When I get to run any of my motors for the first
time I try to realize that my experience is very
much the same as that of the original owner,
70, 80, 90, and in one case 101 years ago.
          Their all new to me.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Reminds me  of when I bought my first brand new motor here in NZ in 1963. It was an Evinrude 40hp Big Twin and I well remember coming home from work and seeing  this large box  at the front door.  Hardly slept that night with excitement!! Needless to say I had in the water next day. I had had to wait several months to get from USA……..I still have it…….given marvelous service!
