You want to test the secondary from spark plug lead to spark plug lead on the 20K ohm scale. Your magneto is discussed in this thread link with coil substitute options. https://www.aomci.org/forums/topic/folding-n-sportwin/

Thanks everyone!  Back to my original question.  Any compatible coil assemblies from same era?  Newer options?

          JGG13,

You can try to find a donor coil from a similar vintage Sea King, with possibly similar results. I would probably try the “military” coil swap for this. If you do a search on this site, you will find threads showing various methods.

The other thing you should ask yourself is, do I care enough about this motor to do this. Does it have sentimental value, or are you just looking for a challenge?

It can be done if you want to do it.

I found a thread from Richard White 2015 that shows dual omc coils.  That looks like an option. I will need to look for the “military” option as well.

To your question, it’s the challenge.  Doing this with my 13 year old.  Started with a random curb find of a 49 sea king that we did a minor rebuild of, and got running.

Hey Tubs.  Measuring across plug leads I measure 6.8 k ohms but measuring either lead to ground I have no continuity at all.  Is the 6.8 significant or is the lead to ground the determining factor for a bad coil?  I don’t want to overlook something before I dive in.  Really appreciate all the help from you guys!

That is how it should be as far as checking the secondary’s. Not sure of the exact ohm reading but its not open so I suspect your coil is still good.
