OMC Folks,
I am having a brain cramp with my 1953 Super Fastwin carb linkage. No matter what I do, I cannot make the throttle butterfly achieve WOT position with the cam follower fully advanced on the cam. The best I can do is about 3/4 throttle.
Can someone who has a Super Fastwin possibly take a pic of your throttle linkage at WOT position? A picture is worth a thousand words. I should have taken some pics of mine while I was messing with it, but got carried away.
Thanks, David

The cam follower roller might have a groove worn in it. A length of shrink tubing might fix it. . . 🙂

Garry,
The cam roller is perfect, but that is a great idea.
November 22, 2016 at 3:17 pm #47818Years ago I had some Devcon Rubber mix left over on on job in our Machine Shop at work, and used it. Yes, I had to cut a slightly deeper and wider grove on the lathe 1st before I applied the new Devcon to fill up the space. Machined it after back to original surface spec’s; and is still like new after 15 years. Great stuff for these small fix jobs.

😯 I wish I was smart enough to think of things like this on my own. I have bought quite a few cam rollers because of those grooves. 🙄
November 22, 2016 at 6:16 pm #47824Not having one in front of me, I gotta ask this. The link between the cam follower and carburetor lever–do the two levers have more than one hole in each? I am thinking the link rod goes in the outermost hole in the cam follower lever and the innermost hole in the carburetor lever. At least that is the way I remember it without having one to look at.
November 22, 2016 at 7:53 pm #47827Yes, you are correct. There are two holes in the arm and both arms have the same part number. Having the link in the outer hole on top and the inner hole on the bottom multiplies the action of the throttle cam. If the holes are worn, switch arms. . . 😀

November 22, 2016 at 9:08 pm #47837November 22, 2016 at 9:25 pm #47840As a quick fix for the missing rubber on my 1989 9.9 cam follower, i used a precisely cut strip of Gorilla Tape cut to the perfect length so the tape wouldn’t overlap once it was applied and wrapped around one layer and make a bump. I did 2 layers like this. I did this while anxious to test this motor. the redneck fix works great, but i will purchase a whole new roller or try one of our responders methods, when i rebuild the carb.
Sometimes thinking outside the box works just as well, and cheaper too. most of the time it is cheaper and you "beat the system" 😀"Some people want to know how a watch works, others just want to know what time it is"
