      Hello everyone!
I know there are pages everywhere about this but I have a question that isn’t addressed. Most topics say 3000-8000 ohms is acceptable.
When I tested two coils today for the first time, the digital multimeter displayed 7.48 on the 20,000 ohm setting. If my math is correct, that is roughly 140,000 ohms!
Can anyone help me out? This is making me feel a tad bit novice again 😐

I’m betting 20K means the display will show up to 19.99K ohms, so your coil is 7480 ohms.

PhilB is correct, the meter should be read as 7,480 ohms (7K48).

On a DMM, the range is not a multiplier, but a range limit. It’s not a "20,000X" range, but a range with a limit of 20,000 ohms (20K).

So the 20K range means that the results will be in kilo ohms (so multiply the reading by 1000) and the largest resistance value that can be displayed is 20,000 ohms (20K).

Thank you guys. I knew something wasn’t right. This just made me have one of those why didn’t I think of that moments
