      Hello all….

I happened upon this instructional video on youtube. I have no reason to doubt the author; he certainly seems to know what he is talking about.

Still….I never realized that resistor plugs made much of a difference in the actual running of an engine. I thought that their advantage was related to lesser electrical interference with neighboring circuits.

So….do you think that the difference in idle quality and general running is indeed caused by an **incorrect** spark plug….or is the non-resistor plug that he is using just **BAD**?

Seems to me the harder the system to make a spark, the less spark a guy would get. Adding resistance would make electrical travel harder & get less voltage after a resistor to use up some of the energy. Never told us the heat range that was used so no accurate test against the other plug can be made without that data.

Jeff, one of the ways to tell which spark plug on a multi cylinder 2-stroke is not firing is to use an auxiliary gap or simply pull the plug wire a short distance from the spark plug while running. This creates a higher " resistance " and makes the ignition system work harder. If it will jump the auxiliary gap at the higher voltage requirement then it will easily jump the gap at the plug tip and fire that cylinder if the plug is not internally shorted. Not only will it fire the cylinder but the spark itself will be a "fatter" spark due to the fact that the KV of the spark is higher (due to the auxiliary gap) than what is required to simply jump the plug gap. Kinda’ the same theory as a resistor plug.

He should have used an NGK plug right from the beginning.
