Not directly outboard related but I have read a lot of posts about electronic gauges on the board.

I have a new in the box Triplett model 630-NA meter complete with the original (dead) Eveready D cell and 30volt square battery.

The meter looks vintage, but think it is newer than it looks. Invoice says 1993. It was used by the phone company.

Here are the questions. Is it just a giant multi-meter? Can it help me do any nifty ignition testing that my digital multi-meter cannot?

I am not much of a whiz with meters or electricity in general, mostly just know how to check continuity and voltage.

      Thanks for any information,

      Allen

        Allen,
Yes I use a 630 A meter too. It is a mulit-meter just like any other meter except it will measure high voltage & it goes back to the thirties & to get the most data on it go to E-Bay & type in Triplet 630-A. Yes it requires two 9 Volt & 1 D Size batteries to save money on the 20 volt battery. Look it up & e mail me at Jeff.50.com & I’ll send more data It measures low voltage very well on the primary winding.
