Hello, I just purchased this old motor, and I was wondering if you guys could help me identify it:

      And another:

It has the serial number of 100468 I think, and on the underside of the flywheel is the number 21 34

There is a spot on where the transom clamps and the body is allowed to pivot that looks like it once had a name plate, but nothing now.

I think it might me a Sea King made by Evinrude, but that is going from pics I found online.

Hopefully you guys can help me, as this is my first out board to restore.

The #1 on the serial number is probably a 4. So you may have a model 400 Evinrude lightwin. It’s 4hp, made from 1931-1934. It takes a 6m spark plug, gapped 0.025, points gapped 0.020. One third pint oil to a gallon of gas.

There’s a lug sticking out of the crankcase where the tiller handle bolts onto, look on there for some numbers, my bet would be that it is a 7-digit number. If so, the first 3 numbers give you the model number. Hope this helps.

          Best,

Your motor is in the same family as the motor in this video.
The timing lever is different on yours. It may be a Sea King.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Nice find for your first & welcome aboard! Be very careful not to break the fin on the bottom. Nice it still has it. Take your time & you will be rewarded! Go to Doug Penn for parts as he will help you, good guy to work with.

Thank you guys! I have already started tearing her down, slowly but surely! It’s obviously an Evinrude 400 series, does anyone know of a good source for a manual? I have been looking at Doug Penn’s site and as soon as I figure out what I am going to need, that will be the first place to go.

                Again, thanks guys!
