Picked up a nice shape Viking 12 Hp Model number 12ED10V
So what have I got an OMC product or an Elgin or something else?
If anyone could share a parts manuel it would be greatly appreciated. Richard Paquette if you are out there glad to get your thoughts.
Thanks and have a good weekend

September 11, 2015 at 1:23 pm #23629Billy, you have a Gale motor sold by Eaton’s in Canada. Gale was the 3rd division in the OMC grouping.
Here is a link to Richard’s site with parts manuals and a comprehensive Gale Service manual.

September 11, 2015 at 2:32 pm #23631Oh I have buccaneer 12 hp Im assuming that also is the same engine, Mine is 1956.

September 11, 2015 at 3:11 pm #23637I have one branded as an Elto, and a identical 12hp Buccanner for parts. Seem to be a cross between a 15hp Johnson and a the later 18hp.
I have seen 2 now with cracked flywheel hubs at the key way, so be careful mounting the flywheel.
Frank; -could u expand some on the ‘wedge head’ p/h ?September 11, 2015 at 5:09 pm #23642Here’s an exploded view of a 12D10 powerhead and you can see the one piece cylinder and head is wedge shaped. The later models were a totally different design and had a removable cylinder head.
September 11, 2015 at 10:46 pm #23655Yes I can see much different than mine. My engine is very similar to the 15 and the 18s even the l/u is seems Identical to the 18. Maybe they would interchange. Very interesting.

quote Billy T:… Model number 12ED10VWhat’s the "E" for? I’ve never heard of an electric-start Gale "wedge head"
The earliest Gale electric I’ve seen record of is the 22DE11V (1954 Viking 22hp)
September 12, 2015 at 3:28 pm #23689Mumbles; -thanx for that. Very few post war OMCs with integral heads. Even the OK20 had detachable heads,
although the 9.8 twins did not, albeit the 15" KR and fire pump power head did .
But no Mercs in their 1st 50 yrs . Food for thought :geek:September 12, 2015 at 3:59 pm #23690It’s too bad Johnson waited until the last two years of production (’49-’50) of their OK model before adapting cylinder heads to them. Of the OK models I own, 60, 75, 15 and 20, I prefer the design and appearance of the OK 20 model. The poor KA,KS and KD models never did get heads on them, just a spark plug location change.
