      I was wondering if anybody new the best way to remove a shift rod seal on a 1957 Johnson 5.5 hp? Model # CD-14

        My go to tool for this is my Starrett 5/16” pin punch. If that doesn’t do it, then tap the bushing a few turns with a 5/16 tap. Screw in a bolt and tap it out by tapping on the bolt from above.

            If you can turn or grind down a bar of steel to use as a punch, you’ll be all set.

              This is assuming, of course, that you have the powerhead removed, shift rod disconnected, lower unit removed from the midsection, gearcase drained, skeg removed from the gearcase and all the internals out of it.
