February 7, 2021 at 5:49 am #229709I see you have no replies at all, so I will….I am confused. If the motor has no number plate, what’s the number in your thread’s title and where did it come from? Is this a fiberglass hood Lightwin or something much older?
Long live American manufacturing!
February 7, 2021 at 8:55 am #229721fiberglass hood slanted ….those are the only#s on the side ID plate ??? will look furthetr and send pics later today picked it up on KIjiji (our craiglist) for 75$cdn
I initially & wrongly assumed it was 5hp… because it has a counter rotating prop like a 5hp ….. but marked 4hp on the front of the hood I had not looked closely enough at the ad before my bid
maybe it is a 5hp with the wrong hood ??? it is the non shifting version (rotates 180)
bottom HS speed neeedle is pointy like a LS needle ??? usually they are much blunter (maybe someone installed the wrong needle & it is missing the front knob 🙁 )
it has the round recoil spring on the side of the PH like a 4hp

It looks like the tag has been pop riveted on to so this motor may have a shady past.
Take a look at the Welch plug on the block and see what numbers are stamped on it, if the plug is still there.

February 7, 2021 at 12:18 pm #229783Yep, that is a 71 4hp Lightwin, and that ID plate sure looks like it has been pop riveted in place….
