I bought these .22 mfd caps a couple of years ago, evidently
by mistake, as they’re huge. Probably about 3/4″ in diameter.
They have a DC voltage rating of 1.2k volts. Considerable higher
than the 800 volt ratings I’ve been using, but out of, and on order. Is there any reason other than mounting or clearance issues
why these big caps would not work? I’d like to find a use
for them, and “thimk” I can make them fit on this Zephyr mag.
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
July 19, 2021 at 6:13 pm #243284I am using the rectangle equivalent from digi-key on my 9.9/15. They work fine with 50 hours on them so far. I mounted then outside the motor on a mounting plate. Ya probably can probably find room for them inside somewhere but might need to fab hold down bracket.

July 19, 2021 at 8:24 pm #243295any limits on their heat range ?? otherwise no reason they would not work if they test good and can be fitted .
I built myself a test box ( W.Mohat Outboarder article) for caps and found ” good looking caps” to test bad 🙁 even at around DC spikes of 275 V .

July 19, 2021 at 8:30 pm #243296I’ve got an old Heathkit Capacitor tester that I can run up to 600 volts and look for excess leakage current. Can also measure capacitance with it. I built that kit back in the early 1960s when I was 16. A handy instrument if you can find one! Looks like the one in the link below.

The caps are about 3/4″ diameter, hence won’t fit in the old
condenser cans.Prepare to be boarded!

The original condensers mounted on the bottom of the Zephyr’s mag plate,
and I have room to do the same with these big caps….. I hope!Prepare to be boarded!

Not sure if “heat range” is in the specs. Would that be from ambient air,
or heat build-up from electrical load? If the old condensers took
the heat, these caps should too?Prepare to be boarded!

DaveI’ll try wiring them in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
And if they don’t work, my cap order was just delivered
a couple of hours ago, so I should have smaller
ones that I can put in the old condenser cans if I want.Prepare to be boarded!
