Hi to all vintage outboard enthusiasts
I am hoping someone can help me. I have just purchased a 1972 Mercury 9.8 short shaft manual start outboard. The model number is illegible. The serial number is 3264425 I’m trying to find out what the model number is so I can find parts for it. Can someone provide info on how I can go about finding model number information?
I would surmise that if you know the year and hp and serial number you could go to MarineEngine.com and look it up since you only need year and horsepower…to find part numbers…give it a shot, you will not be disappointed.
Thanks Richard for responding …. I just tried your recommendation & was not successful. The problem is whenever I try to use just the serial # I get "Serial Number 03264425 Not Found" Iv’e tried different sites & get the same result. Hopefully I will have success when I find out what the model Number is.
Mercury back then did not really use "model numbers" . Essentially if you have the HP and the serial number you should be able to find your motor. However….even though your HP is 9.8…..Mercury called your motor the "110". Confusing? Yep!
Marineengine.com has your serial number in the range for the Model 110 Outboard
Thanks for the assistance. I contacted Mercury directly & was provided a link to the parts list for my motor. I am now able to look up part #s for any part I may need for my motor.
