“As long as people put 3 of them on one boat, expect them to get bigger in the future”. That is a quote from an Evinrude manager, back when they came out with their V-6 200hp.

Is Mercury still an American made product or is owned abroad and assembled in the US?

The bigger engines are still built in the US. The smaller ones are built in either Japan or China; but I’m pretty sure the China ones are designed here. As far as I know, Mercury is the only US company left that builds outboards at all. Say what you want about them, but if Fond Du Lac ever goes down, they are gonna go down swingin’, baby.

                    Long live American manufacturing!

At a mere 1,260 pounds, it’s the same weight as my 21′ bay boat. Outboard shops will have to buy bigger engine hoists!

Edit – yes, they do have a 20″ shaft length model! It’s the lightweight one at 1,260#.
