      1953 Evinrude 15 HP long shaft what is needed to convert to short shaft.

        If it is a factory long shaft, you need a 302491 drive shaft, a 303098 shift rod, lower, and a 303097 water tube. OR you can cut exactly 5″ off the shift rod and water tube. Use a chainsaw file to file a notch in the shortened shift rod.

          long shaft is better /safer ……. have you considered raising the transom a few inches

          it all depends on the boat you have of course (shape, material and all.…) but I did it on an aluminum 16′ boat I had years ago …

          installed a Long Shaft Classic 50 with power trim.… great set up …

          took out the back top trim…. took out the inside plywood transom plates reinstalled 2 x 3/4 marine ply sheets (glued together) to raise the transom , covered it up with 5 feet wide piece angle iron over the new plywood transom

          Installed the Classic 50 …… with cable steering on a home made console on the center seat …..never had any trouble

          should have kept it
