As the title says, I am also working on a Johnson AB-25, the salt water version of the  A-25. I have the magneto off for spark plug wire replacement, so decided to clean the carb and generally look it over as it is new to me.

I discovered that it does have spark(gotta love those Johnson coils), and was putting the plugs back when I noticed this!

Pistons were upside down, so removed cylinders and put the moving parts in their proper location on the crankshaft.

The last guy had a 50 / 50 chance of getting those pistons correct
        and he blew it, lol.
I still have one motor on the rack from years ago that I wonder
if the pistons are in correct. It ran bad!

Did they get the connecting rods on the correct sides?

Is your motor a 1926 by chance? 1927 would have seen the arrival of the A-35. I don’t know if that one came in a bronze version.

Re the backwards/upside down pistons, have seen it numerous times. I suppose its easy to forget which way the pistons ought to be installed if the assembler flips the crankshaft upside down and looses track of which end is up.

This is a Johnson BN that had the same problem

The next day it took me out on the lake. I think they are extra grateful after you fix them.
