Currently working with an early Kiekhaefer Sea King.
Does anyone know of a model with an “RF” prefix? I can’t figure out what this thing is.I can tell by looking it has the early suction carb, and its got the Mercury-styled rope sheave.
Any help would be great.
Still trying to figure out how to send photos. Keeps deleting them.
Thanks!

When you are a A Member there and sign in as a Member there will be a Search Field that appears. It works very well. You can also do a Google search and specify that you want Google to search a particular site.
For example you can type into Google: Thor Sea King site:Johnsoldmercury site.com
April 16, 2026 at 11:14 pm #315657Kiekhaefer took over the inactive Thor plant in early 1939 and transitioned to an entirely new design for 1940 model year. Your Thor/Sea King by Kiekhaefer could be from either the batch rejected by and then reworked or Thor/Sea King manufactured by Kiekhaefer,. At least a few outboards were made with left over Thor powerhead mounted on 1940 style lower units, A friend in the hobby had a Mercury with this odd combination,
Early days at Kiekhaefer had to have been interesting,

April 18, 2026 at 8:43 am #315729I figured it out. The seller was giving me the serial number of the mag plate instead. I have a 1937 Thor Single under the Sea King branding.
