First time I had this one in the barrel today after going through the motor this
last winter. It idles better than it runs fast. When you try going fast it
sounds real “doggy”….. like a slow dog on a hot day.
The carb was tuned-in to it’s sweet spot, and there’s not much leeway either
way on the needle adjustment.
The cylinders are running nice and cool, so it’s not over heating.
Both plugs were hot to the touch.
The longer I ran it, the worse it got going “fast”, and eventually quit on me.
Being that it idles better than it goes fast, I’m thinking maybe the coil is B.O.
I only tested it with an ohm meter and it seemed okay. Any other ideas on what’s wrong?
I’ll have to see if I can find one running on YouTube for comparison. https://youtu.be/EyuYx2Goruw
I just listened to several Johson 210’s run on YouTube.
Some of them sounded a little “doggy” as well, but seem to
wind up a little more.
This one sounded the best…….. https://youtu.be/zuhrqldL1hA
Some motors can’t stand running in smoky air thats’ already been through combustion. Set up a window fan blowing onto the front to keep smoke away from the carb.
Harry, I’ll try the fan tomorrow after I get the gas leaks fixed. Thanks.
I put 11:1 fuel mixture in the motor……. not sure what it’s suppose to be.
Also, I should verify what spark plugs it takes.
I believe it has a three blade prop on it. I have not compared it to other 210 photos,
but that’s good food for thought. The reason I was thinking coil is because the
longer I ran it, the worse it ran at high speed, and eventually quit. Not sure if I
tried restarting it after that point, as I need to address the gas line leaks.
Thanks.
