The “Bible” (The Old Outboard Book) shows the original Champion spark plug as J12J,
and with a (1954) replacement as UJ12, which crosses over
to a modern Champion 592 spark plug.
It’s a 14 mm plug that has a reach of .46 inches.Champion 592 Copper Plus Spark Plug RJ12C – 8 Pack | eBay
Most of these early motors ran with a plug gap of .025.

Unless your sparkplug wire has been changed to a push on connector, your going to need a sparkplug with the screw type connection. These are getting harder to find. I have been using the champion J-17-LM in my Cubs, and my other small motors, for quite some time. However the ones I bought to have for spares to bring on vacation, no longer have the screw type connection. If your plug wire does have a push on connection, or you should want to change it to one, I suggest using the J-17-LM.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
